Lovers of Leftoversbrings together works by artists who adopt a singular approach to objects, including those that are objectively ugly or superfluous. There is a kind of compulsion and simultaneously tenderness in how they look at things, juxtapose them and search for forms. For some, it will be a compulsion to tidy things up or make them look nice, for others it will be a desire to make use of waste. What they all share, however, is a detached attitude to reality. What we confront here is aestheticization, albeit one where a sense of humour is anything but absent.
Perhaps it is a matter of composition. Simple as that.
Repetition and lending a rhythm always ennobles.
This, however, is certainly not a deliberate strategy. Sooner an imperative.
And not so much a necessity to have things in order but a response to matter,
working with it,
collaboration.
Love? For forms, for a certain range of colours, for splatters.
And a love affair with seeking redefinition. Resetting functions. Ignoring contexts,
or highlighting and winking at them.
Elegance and simplicity that
does not obscure the story.
Composition.
